My Hackintosh Build

or 'How to build a Super Computer with Windows xx and Mavericks 10.9'

(with a separate hard drive for the Hackintosh to make it simple for beginners!)

First of all let's make sure you have an all singing, all dancing Windows PC in your hands. You don't have to have used the same stuff as me, I only put the list up (on the right) in case you were thinking of building an all singing, all dancing Windows PC that would also run a Hackintosh with no worries!

The following will be instructions for a build with the Asus Sabertooth 990FX R2.0 Motherboard, AMD FX-8150 Eight Core Processor, Asus Nvidia GeForce GT 630 Graphics Card and the (External Sound Card USB 6 Channel 5.1 Audio.)
We will be using and you need to go to this page and join up. You can join up with your Facebook login.
Everything on this site becomes FREE! once you have logged in!
You will need to download:
  • Niresh - 10.9 - Mavericks USB Version.zip
  • Win32DiskImager-0.9.5-install.zip
When you have downloaded these two files you will need to unzip them.
You will need an 8Gb (or more!) USB Drive, if you don't have this you can get it at    and don't forget that once it is written to by Win32 Disk Imager it can ONLY be used as Niresh's OSX Installer!

Win32 Disk Imager

When you start to look for your file in Win32 Disk Imager you will have to look for it yourself (you remember where you 'unzipped' it, don't you!), click the litte blue icon on the right-hand side.
  • The file you are looking for is OSX-Mavericks.dmg

  • Then you will click on 'Write', it will tell you that your USB Drive is in danger but just click through it.

    Separate Hard Drive

Now is the time to utilise your StarTech 5.25in Trayless Hot Swap Mobile Rack for 3.5in Hard Drive and your 3.5in Maxtor 160Gb or whatever(SATA) you got!
Just connect your Mobile Tray up to any spare SATA connections which are laid about and then plug your drive in it!

    The Bios on a Sabretooth

Now that we have got our USB, just stick it in the machine then restart it!
Hold down the 'Delete' button to get us in the 'bios'.
    Then watch the video below:

You will notice on Niresh's Mavericks Installer screen the flags which you put in at Boot: were amd fx -x -v hit enter.

If you haven't got an FX chip then just put amd -x -v hit enter. (all lower case!)

Although this seems very simple, it is likely to 'hang'.(Kernel Panic) Don't Worry! If this happens then just do it all again (that's stopping the computer by holding the power button for four seconds, wait a few seconds and switch it on again, hold down the Delete to get back into the bios. Go into the bios and click 'Advanced Mode' at the top of the screen is a button called 'Boot', click this and scroll down to your USB, click on it!)
Now this time when you land on Niresh's Mavericks installer the only Boot flags you will have to put in is -v hit enter again!

    The Disk Utility

When you reach the Mac screen on the installer you will find the Disk Utility already open for you. You will need to format as HTFS which will mean 'ERASE' the disk and make sure you've got it on 'Mac OS Extended (Journaled)', then erase. Give your disk a name while your at it!

When your finished in there, then click on the red button and that will bring up this screen:

You can ignore the customisation for now, just click Install

After about 30mins or so you will be told that your comuputer will restart.
Hold down the Delete to get back into the bios. Go into the bios and click 'Advanced Mode' at the top of the screen is a button called 'Boot', click this and scroll down to your USB, click on it!)
Now this time when you land on Niresh's Mavericks installer the your disk (whatever you named it!) will be there. Use the arrow keys to highlight it and once again the only Boot flags you will have to put in is -v hit enter again!

If you hang on a couple of seconds this screen will tell you if your sound is being picked up natively, (like mine was with the USB sound card.) if not you will hear nothing. (Worry not!)

Here you will need to answer questions just like a errm, erm, oh! yes, a Mac.
It will ask you for a password, (don't forget it because you need it everytime you want to do something on the Mac.) Do it intelligently and you won't have any problems!

This is the screen you've been waiting for...

...but Niresh is going to do something magic for you. It will spend up to 15mins fixing all the permissions and some other sundry stuff before you can close it down.
When it says it has finished, now comes the time to have a play. First of all, fix your clock! Then open your browser (Safari) and download Google Chrome and install it because Safari has got something wrong with it... anyway it's good practice.

    Install Chimera

If you click on the 'Chimera' logo in the centre of the screen it will take you to the Chimera download page.
You will need to go to this page and join up. Everything on this site becomes FREE! once you have logged in!

Install your copy of Chimera and that is it!!!

Now close down your Hackintosh and go into the bios one more time... !
Make your 'New Hard Drive' boot first!
Take the USB out of your machine and give it a whirl...!!!
Above is the first screen you will see, hit the space bar to halt it, then see what you've got. (you've got to be quick!)
